To begin the equine research grant application process for 2015-2016, applicants must download the current research guidelines for a complete list of program criteria. Research funding is available through our general, head trauma and young investigator applications.

The American Quarter Horse Association and American Quarter Horse Foundation encourage the submission of research projects related to the health, welfare and utility of the horse, and of importance to the horse owner and horse industry. Current research priorities include:

1. Congenital Diseases/Genetics
2. Welfare
3. Infectious Diseases/Immunology
4. Musculoskeletal Disorders and Injuries
5. Reproduction

Issues within these categories include genetic markers for disease, genetic medicine and therapy, regenerative medicine, utility of the horse, therapeutic modalities, breeding values and standards, drug testing, physical therapy and rehabilitation of the horse, improved injury management, behavioral issues, feeding practices, parasite control and improved deworming protocols. Funding decisions will be based on scientific merit, clinical application and or potential benefit to the horse and horse industry.
