Discover the man behind the legendary art at the Orren Mixer exhibit in the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum.  View portraits from private collectors, AQHA’s collection, personal artifacts and video recordings of Mixer explaining in his own words why “he had all the prettiest models.”  We invite you to share in this tribute to Orren Mixer and the beauty of the American Quarter Horse.  Visit Orren Mixer Exhibit for more information.

To honor the contributions that ranch horses have made to the heritage of the American Quarter Horse, the American Quarter Horse Association and Zoetis present the Best Remuda Award, which recognizes outstanding performance by a working ranch remuda.   The award began in 1992 and has since recognized more than 20 outstanding ranches for their efforts in raising American Quarter Horses, an important tool of their trade.

For more information about the Best Remuda and this year’s winner, please visit the Best Remuda Exhibit.

The saddle has come a long way in the last 4000 years – from a piece of cloth over the horse’s back to the modern Western and English saddles most people are familiar with. Saddle Up! A Ride Through History explores the changes in the saddle over the last 150 years. The exhibit progresses from stark simplicity of a U.S. Cavalry saddle from the 1860’s through the age of the Mexican Charro saddle and the ladies side saddle to that of contemporary Western and English saddles.

The Youth Art Show is an opportunity for students in high school, junior high and middle school within the Region 16 area to participate in an educational and artistic challenge capturing the spirit of the American Quarter Horse and the role he played in creating our nation.  Students’ artwork must address a particular theme (assigned by our educational program coordinator) and required to write a one paragraph explanation of their work on how it relates to their chosen theme.  A reception is held for the winners of the Youth Art Show to present each placement with a prize and/or award.  The Youth Art Show is available for viewing December through mid-January. Visit 2012 Youth Art Show for more information.
