July 2012 America's Horse

Don't miss the July issue of America's Horse.

America’s Horse – AQHA’s member publication – is intended to help members enjoy the American Quarter Horse lifestyle. We do that by introducing you to interesting people who are part of our community, pointing out programs or events that you might find fun, and offering health, training and management tips to make your horse life easier.

Want some examples? Look no farther than the July issue.

Interesting people? Check. First up is the new AQHA president, Gene Graves of Grand Island, Nebraska, who is knowledgeable about many different facets of the horse industry. You’ll want to read this profile on him … and then stay tuned to see where he leads the Association in 2012.

Also inside the pages of America’s Horse: Canadian trick rider Niki Flundra; an Ohio man who is using horses to help him recover from debilitating strokes; and a horse-centric community in California, where it’s common to navigate the neighborhood on horseback.

Programs you might enjoy? Roger that. The AQHA Horseback Riding Program is one of the Association’s gems. You can receive awards simply for riding your horse and logging the hours. In our cover story, we introduce you to the most recent 5,000-hour award winners.

And useful tips? You’re covered there, too. A Penn State University extension specialist offers advice on “green” horse-keeping, including some great thoughts on managing the mud around wash areas, composting and rotational grazing.

There’s lots more to be found in the pages of America’s Horse, including a list of great summer events; the popular Sage Remarks page, which is a collection of quips and quotes about horses that is perfect for refrigerator doors; and plenty of information about the other benefits of being an AQHA member.

Besides receiving 10 issues of America’s Horse each year, AQHA members are also eligible for hundreds of dollars in savings from AQHA corporate partners. Click here to find out the top five reasons to join the world’s largest equine organization!
