The clinicians and judges are lined up for the 2012 American Quarter Horse Youth World Cup July 21-28 in Kreuth, Germany.

Aside from the spirited competition between international teams, the American Quarter Horse Youth World Cup is renowned for its opportunities for education. The 2012 event, scheduled for July 21-28 in Kreuth, Germany, boasts clinics by horsemen that hail from across Europe and the United States.

This year’s Youth World Cup clinicians include:

  • Showmanship – AQHA Professional Horseman Sandra Elder of Maryville, Tennessee, and Pierre Ouellet of Italy
  • Horsemanship – Mirjam Giraudini of Italy and Sandra Elder
  • Western riding – AQHA Professional Horseman Nancy Cahill of Madisonville, Texas, and Matteo Sala of Italy
  • Trail – Matteo Sala, Pierre Ouellet and Nancy Cahill
  • Western pleasure – AQHA Professional Horsemen Hubertus and Christel Jagfeld and Alexandra Jagfeld of Germany
  • Hunter under saddle – Paola Donarini Masi of Italy and Sandra Elder
  • Hunt seat equitation – Mirjam Giraudini, Sandra Elder and Sylvia Jäckle of Germany
  • Reining – Jan Boogaerts of Belgium, AQHA Professional Horseman Rieky Young of the Netherlands and Brian Turnbull of Germany
  • Cutting – Royal Bavarian Cutters of Germany

In addition to the great chance for education from a wide variety of horsemen, the clinics also provide the opportunity for riders to familiarize themselves with their teams’ American Quarter Horses before competition begins.

“Clinics and the chance for education have always been one of my favorite aspects of what the Youth World Cup has to offer,” said AQHA Director of International Affairs David Avery. “Education evens the playing field for everyone.

The judges for the 2012 Youth World Cup are also in place:

  • Hans Kuhn of Germany
  • Jan Boogaerts of Belgium
  • Sylvia Katschker of Austria
  • Sylvia Jäckle of Germany
  • Rieky Young of the Netherlands

The Youth World Cup at the Gut Matheshof in Kreuth kicks off on July 21 with a welcome ceremony and opening barbecue. At the opening event, competitors will exchange gifts and coaches will draw for their teams’ horses.

In alphabetical order, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, the Dominican Republic, Germany, Israel, Italy, Luxemborg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland and the United States will draw their team’s group of horses. The draw will actually be a double draw, where the coaches will initially draw a draw order, and then proceed to draw in that order for their team’s group of horses.

Throughout the competition, each country will ride for gold medals in cutting, reining, horsemanship, western pleasure, trail, western riding, hunt seat equitation, hunter under saddle and showmanship. Medallions will be awarded through 10th place, and every ride counts.

It certainly takes a lot of people and organizations to make the Youth World Cup work, and the event's patron sponsors – AQHA Corporate Partner Merial, the Fort Worth Stock Show, Tom Bivins and Neal Pendergraft – are a big part of that. Class sponsors – Texas Amateur/Big Country, the National Snaffle Bit Youth Association, Allocate Your Assets and the cities of Bryan/College Station – play a large part as well.
