No Horse, No Problem

The 2012 Built Ford Tough AQHYA World Championship Show will provide youth with and without horses some great events and opportunities.

The Ford Youth World will be providing youth with and without horses with some great events and opportunities.

While the competition takes center stage at the 2012 Built Ford Tough American Quarter Horse Youth Association World Championship Show, those with or without horses will still have an opportunity to take part in a variety of activities.

“AQHYA has been working hard to make sure there is something for everyone to do at this year’s Ford Youth World,” said Tom Persechino, AQHA executive director of competition and breed integrity.

While some events require pre-entries, there are many events for youth to compete in and all of the events are open for viewing.

Tentative schedule for these exciting events:

Thursday, August 2

  • 6 p.m. – Town Hall Meeting in Barn 8
  • 7 p.m. - Ride the Pattern: Western Riding with AQHA Professional Horsemen Charlie Cole and Jason Martin in Barn 8

Friday, August 3

  • 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. - College Fair in the trade show in the Cox Pavilion
  • 5 p.m. - Ride the Pattern: Horsemanship with AQHA Professional Horseman Brad Kearns in Barn 8
  • 7 p.m. - Ride the Pattern: Trail with AQHA Professional Horseman Buddy Fisher

Saturday, August 4

  • 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. - College Fair in the trade show in the Cox Pavilion
  • 3 p.m. - Justin Boots and Wrangler Jeans decorating contest entries due. Be sure to bid on your favorites throughout the week to support the scholarship fund.
  • 7 p.m. - Ride the Pattern: Showmanship with AQHA Professional Horseman Ryan Cottingim in Barn 8
  • 8 p.m. - Ride the Rail: Western Pleasure with AQHA Professional Horseman Adam Wainscott in Barn 8
  • 8 p.m. – Town Hall Meeting in Barn 8

Sunday, August 5

  • 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. - College Fair in the trade show in the Cox Pavilion
  • 10:30 a.m. - Church service in the Sales Pavilion

Monday, August 6

  • 8 a.m. - Merial AQHYA Horse Judging Contest in the Performance Arena
  • 6 p.m. - Ride the Pattern: Hunt Seat Equitation with AQHA Professional Horseman Lainie DeBoer in Barn 8
  • 8 p.m. - Parade of Teams in the Jim Norick Arena

Tuesday, August 7

  • 8 a.m. – Merial Horse Judging contest awards breakfast in Carriage Hall
  • 11 a.m. - Team Demonstration in the Sales Pavilion
  • 12 p.m. - Prepared and Impromptu Speeches in the Sales Pavilion
  • 4 p.m. - Learning Leveling with Patti Carter-Pratt in the Sales Pavilion
  • 8 p.m. - Ride the Rail: Hunter Under Saddle with AQHA Professional Horseman Jerry Erickson in Barn 8
  • 8 p.m. – Cowboy mounted shooting demo in Jim Norick Arena

Wednesday, August 8

  • 9 a.m. - Horse bowl contest in the Sales Pavilion
  • 7 p.m. - Awards reception, variety show and exhibitor social in the Sales Pavilion

Thursday, August 9

  • 5 p.m. – Justin Boots and Wrangler Jeans decorating competition ends
  • 7 p.m. - Ride the Pattern: Working Cow Horse with AQHA Professional Horsemen Don Murphy & Sam Rose in Performance Arena

The Ford Youth World is the pinnacle event for American Quarter Horse exhibitors, ages 18 and under, around the world, who must qualify for the event by earning a predetermined number of points to compete in each of the classes representing halter, English and western disciplines. More than 2,400 entries from the United States, Brazil, Canada, England, Germany, Mexico, Sweden and Venezuela are competing for 34 world championships at this year’s event, August 3-11 at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City.
