American Quarter Horses will vie for more than $32 million in three months’ time.

October 2012 ushered in the start of championship season; it also marked the start of three months where American Quarter Horses will battle for more than $32 million in cash and prizes.

This fall’s premiere events for American Quarter Horses include:

• All American Quarter Horse Congress, October 5-28, Columbus, Ohio – $3 million
• Cowboy Mounted Shooting World Championships, October 17-20, Amarillo – $110,500
• United States Team Roping Championships National Finals of Team Roping, October 20-28, Oklahoma City – $5 million
• Bank of America Challenge Championships, October 27, Altoona, Iowa – $1 million
• National Barrel Horse Association World Championships, October 27 - November 3, Perry, Georgia – $350,000
• Bank of America Amateur and FedEx Open American Quarter Horse Association World Championship Show, November 2-17, Oklahoma City – approximately $3 million
• Clem McSpadden National Finals Steer Roping, November 2-3, Guthrie, Oklahoma – $200,000
• United States Team Penning Association National Finals, November 12-17, Ardmore, Oklahoma, $175,000
• Los Alamitos Super Derby, November 3, Los Alamitos Race Course – $1 million 
• Golden State Million, November 4, Los Alamitos Race Course – $1 million 
• World Championship Ranch Rodeo, November 8-11, Amarillo – $102,000
• Texas Classic Derby, November 10, Lone Star Park, Grand Prairie, Texas – $400,000
• Texas Classic Futurity, November 10, Lone Star Park – $1 million
• National Reining Horse Association Futurity, November 22 - December 1, Oklahoma City – approximately $2 million
• National Cutting Horse Association Futurity, November 24 - December 15, Fort Worth, Texas – approximately $4 million
• Barrel Futurities of America World Championships, December 3-8, Oklahoma City – $1 million
• Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, December 6-15, Las Vegas – $6,125,000
• Champion of Champions, December 15, Los Alamitos Race Course – $750,000 
• Los Al Two Million, December 16, Los Alamitos Race Course – $2 million
• Championship at Sunland, December 30, Sunland Park, New Mexico – $350,000

“Year after year, American Quarter Horses excel at and appear in many of the world’s most exciting equine events that offer lucrative purses to the connections of these horses,” said AQHA Executive Vice President Don Treadway Jr. “There are events from coast to coast, representing a wide range of disciplines. I hope horse lovers from around the globe will have the chance to witness some of the greatest American Quarter Horses during this championship season of events.”
 
Before heading out to one of these – or other great events – Treadway reminds people to vote for your elected officials early if you’re not going to be home on Election Day.

“Voting is one of the greatest freedoms we enjoy, and I know horse people here in the United States are proud of the liberties we have, so I hope – regardless of party affiliation – people will remember to go to the polls before heading out to their favorite equine event. It’s important.”
