America’s Horse in Art Show & Sale presents Kaye Burian with the 2013 Steel Dust Award for best in show.

The sixth annual America’s Horse in Art Show & Sale opened August 17 at the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum in Amarillo. The show and sale features more than 45 world-renowned Western artists’ work, which includes paintings, graphite and charcoal sketches and sculptures. But, only one of the collection was selected for the annual Steel Dust Award. Sculptor Kaye Burian of Manning, North Dakota, was this year’s winner.

This marks the third year for this prestigious award designed to recognize an artist for superior, quality work. Selected by a panel of judges, the award is based on the artistic merit of the entire body of work submitted to the show. Burian has been a participant in America’s Horse in Art since 2011 and has three pieces available for purchase in this year’s show.

Burian draws inspiration for her work from her own western background, rodeoing, ranching and showing. Burian and her husband raise red and black Angus cattle on the Lazy 77 Ranch. They use Quarter Horses in their everyday work. In 2012, Burian’s work was represented at the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame.

Burian received a cash prize and specially designed plaque sponsored by Bruce Carter of Bruce Carter Performance Horses.

The America’s Horse in Art Show & Sale will remain on display through November 16. If you can’t make it to the museum visit www.aqha.com/ahia to see Burian’s and all participating artists’ work. Burian’s work is going to be featured on the cover and inside the October issue of America’s Horse, AQHA’s official member publication.
