Heroes Heart Wins John Deere Juvenile

Heroes Heart again proved her affinity for Prairie Meadows as the Valiant Hero filly took the $150,000 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2) for her third win in as many starts at the Iowa track. Stormy Smith rode for trainer Charlton Hunt and traveled 350 yards in :17.488 to win by three-quarters of a length as the 5-2 favorite.

Bred in Texas by Todd and Jodi Horton and owned by their Horton Racing LLC, Heroes Heart earned her maiden win in a trial for the John Deere Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge and then came back to win the final on September 15. Her third consecutive victory was worth $69,000 and increased her lifetime earnings to $99,299. Heroes Heart is out of the Sixarun mare Sweethearts Quicksix, who is also the dam of the Horton's 2008 Merial Distaff Challenge Championship (G1) winner Snow Burn, by This Snow Is Royal.

“This filly has gotten better every time I have ridden her,” said Smith, who rode Heroes Heart in all three starts at Prairie Meadows. “This was by far her best race. Winning my first Challenge Championship race here at Prairie Meadows means a lot to me. I had never been to Iowa until 11 years ago; now it’s home.”

Brace For Bernal, a 32-1 longshot from Will Rogers Downs running for owner Noel Prieto, battled gamely along the rail and finished second. RC Had To Be My Day, a Hadtobenuts colt who qualified at Sam Houston Race Park for owner Jesus Longoria, got up for third.

Rightamongofwrong, Sheaintcrynrealtears, Rockin Disco, All Out Arrogant, Jess Like Stoli, Rogue County and RG Tres Effort completed the field.
