Race record: Ridden by Jaime Leos for Juan Gonzalez, Vancouver Moon finished third in the eighth trial behind Point Break Dash and Tayte Me Down. Vancouver Moon last year was second to Carters Cookie in the Rainbow Futurity (G1). The filly came into the Derby trials off the July 6 trials to the Rainbow Derby (G1), in which Vancouver Moon was elevated to the win after Llano Cartel was disqualified for interference.

Breeders/Owners: Vancouver Moon is a homebred racing for Dosi and Norma Alvarez of Anthony, New Mexico. From 79 starters, the Alvarezes have bred champion First Moonflash ($969,828), eight other stakes winners, 44 other winners and the earners of more than $3.78 million.

Trainer: Juan Gonzalez qualified Handsome Jack Flash and You N How Many More for the All American Futurity, both ridden by Jaime Leos. Gonzalez sent out By By JJ to win the 2003 All American Futurity, and to date in official American Quarter Horse racing has conditioned the earners of $11,304,174. Gonzalez has saddled the winners of 457 races from 3,121 starters.

Qualifying jockey: Jaime Pargo Leos qualified Handsome Jack Flash and You N How Many More for the All American Futurity, both trained by Juan Gonzalez. In four seasons aboard American Quarter Horses, Leos has ridden the earners of $4,407,809 and won 206 races from 1,427 mounts. Leos last year scored in the Southwest Juvenile Championship (G1) on Secret Courage.

Pedigree:  Vancouver Moon is by champion FDD Dynasty ($1,173,001), a 9-year-old son of First Down Dash. From 207 starters in three crops raced, FDD Dynasty has sired 13 stakes winners, 113 other winners and the earners of more than $3.73 million.

One of 11 winners out of the stakes-placed Major Rime mare Nagano Moon,Vancouver Moon is a half sister to the champion First To Flash stallion First Moonflash ($969,828), who as a freshman sire has been represented by 16 winners and the earners of more than $452,000 from 50 starters, including All American Futurity (G1) qualifier Handsome Jack Flash. Nagano Moon finished third in the 2000 New Mexican Spring Fling (R) but left the track a maiden after six races. In addition to First Moonflash, Nagano Moon has produced the earners of more than $1.89 million, including the stakes-winning full siblings Dash Ta Moon ($351,680) and Full Moon Dasher ($122,086), both by Dash Ta Fame; and the Sixes Royal colt Moonifisant ($127,195), who on April 7 won the New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2).
