Breeders: Since 1992, Jacqueline and Melvin Bollenbach’s Bollenbach Farms at Oklahoma City has bred 136 Quarter Horses, of which 98 have started races and 55 have come back as winners. Altogether, they have earned more than $2.22 million, led by Grade 1 winner Sassy Smith ($412,011); Graded stakes winner and Grade 1 qualifier Sassy Corona ($125,609); Grade 2 winner Anywhere Bully ($123,701); graded stakes winners Bully Bud, Faster Than Lightnin, Casa Corona and This Snow Is Fast; and other stakes winners Starsmith, Smart Sapphire, Jacque Seis and Azoom Babe.
Owner: Krash Cartel was purchased at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale for $72,000 by Juan Villarreal and Raymundo Villarreal Jr.’s Los Primitos of Mission, Texas.
Trainer: Krash Cartel is one of three All American qualifiers conditioned by former jockey John Stinebaugh, who also sent out fastest qualifier PJ Chick In Black and 4th-fastest Just Wanna Corona. Stinebaugh began training in 1985 and since then has sent out the winners of 557 of 4,013 races and the earners of more than $9.4 million. Stinebaugh has conditioned the winners of eight Grade 1 races, including champions and All American Derby winners Double Down Special (2010) and The Casanova (1998), and last year’s Texas Class Futurity (G1) winner Sure Shot B.
Qualifying Jockey: Since 1994, Rodrigo Vallejo has ridden the winners of 977 of 5,989 races. Vallejo scored in the 2008 Heritage Place Futurity (G1) aboard world champion and all-time leading money earner Stolis Winner ($2,235,161).
Pedigree: Krash Cartel is by Grade 1 winner Corona Cartel ($557,142). The 18-year-old son of Holland Ease is the third-all-time leading sire, with progeny earnings of more than $38.8 million. From 1,010 starters, Corona Cartel has sired five champions, 119 other stakes winners and 587 other winners.
The colt is out of the winning Strawfly Special mare Race Valentine ($12,309), who also produced the stakes-winning A Hot Valentine ($32,505) by Corona Caliente, whose sire First Down Dash sired Corona Cartel’s sire Holland Ease. Race Valentine is one of 11 winners out of champion Speedy Empress ($494,716), who has produced the earners of $397,805, including stakes winners Graford ($34,331, by Strawfly Special), Speeding ($99,138, by Shazoom) and Speed Smith ($76,551, by Prime Talent).
