Race record: Apollitical Blood won the 10th heat on the second day of trials. The colt broke his maiden on second asking, in the June 8 trials to the Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1). He came into the All American trials off a fifth-place finish in the $945,000 final on June 22.

Pedigree: Freshman sire Apollitical Jess is a Grade 1-winning 7-year-old stallion by champion Mr Jess Perry and is one of three winners out of the champion Apollo (TB) mare Apollitical Time. A $904,202 earner who scored in three Grade 1 and seven other stakes, Apolllitical Time has produced the earners of $1.4 million and was the 2010 broodmare of the year.

An earner of $1,399,831, Apolllitical Jess scored in two Grade 1 races, the 2010 Champion Of Champions and Los Alamitos Super Derby. He also finished second in the Grade 1Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity and the All American Derby. The stallion has sired 15 winners and the earners of more than $400,000 from 58 starters, including Great Grace, who on April 19 finished third in the Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Derby (RG3) won by All American qualifier Im A Fancy PYC.

Apollitical Blood is one of two starters, both of which are winners, out of the Grade 2-placed Fishers Dash mare Brazilian Dasher ($98,060). Brazilian Dasher Dynasty is out of the Grade 1-winning Tolltac mare Dinastia Toll BRZ, who has produced the earners of more than $1.69 million, including champion FDD Dynasty ($1,173,001) who sired All American qualifier Thunderball B.

Breeder: Bruce and Jill Thompson have bred three starters. Each is a winner, including Apollitical Blood’s 2-year-old full sister Apollitical Legacy, who at Los Alamitos on the same night that Apollitical Blood ran in the Ed Burke Futurity finished fifth in the $25,000 Ed Burke Memorial Invitational Juvenile (R).

Owner: Apollitical Blood races for the Los Alamitos-based Rancho El Cabresto Inc. Owned by Juan Alberto Lizzarraga, Rancho El Cabresto also owns the stakes-placed Oneapolliticalflight  ($164,635), who Juan Aleman sent out to finish second in this year’s Ed Burke Million Futurity. A filly by One Famous Eagle, Oneapolliticalflight is the first foal out of the maiden First Down Dash mare Apollitical Dash, a half-sister to Apollitical Jess.

Trainer: Juan Aleman has sent out 494 winners from 2,582 starts since 2000. He has trained the earners of more than $9.8 million, including having won the Grade 1 Champion of Champions and the Los Alamitos Super Derby with Apollitical Blood’s world champion sire Apollitical Jess and the Los Alamitos Super Derby with Apollitical Jess’ dam Apollitical Time.

Jockey: Raul Valenzuela has ridden 146 winners and the earners of more than $1.89 million from 908 mounts since 2010. He won his first Grade 1 race last year aboard Nellie Delaney in the Southern California Derby, his second aboard the mare in the February 16 Los Alamitos Winter Championship and his third on the gelding Bon Accord in the May 31 Remington Park Invitational Championship.
