Champion breeders Ed Allred and Vessels Stallion Farm will be joined by prominent Quarter Horse owners, breeders and Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association Board Members John Andreini and Dr. Steve Burns as partners for the 2012 renewal of the Los Alamitos Equine Sale that will be held on Saturday, October 6 and Sunday, October 7. Regarded as one of the nation’s top Quarter Horse sales, the Los Alamitos Equine Sale is managed by the PCQHRA and its catalog annually offers the sport’s premiere racing bloodlines. The 2012 consignment contract is now available online on the sale website at

“We are thrilled to have most of California’s top breeders joining forces as Los Alamitos Equine Sale partners,” said Allred, the owner of Los Alamitos Race Course. “This is great for the sale and great for Quarter Horse racing at Los Alamitos.”

A long-time market breeder, stakes winning owner, and successful businessman, Andreini owns the beautiful 2,650-acre J/L Ranch in Paicines, California. He was also a partner with the great Hall of Fame trainer Blane Schvaneveldt on the annual Schvaneveldt/Andreini Yearling Sale.

Over the past 20 years, Andreini has bred in his own name or in partnership with others the winners of more than $3 million. Andreini is also the breeder of Los Alamitos Championship winner Volcom, Firecracker Futurity winner Make A Secret and Southern California Derby winner Deefirst. Andreini’s collection of broodmares is also widely considered one of the nation’s best. His mare Imjumpn was named the PCQHRA Broodmare of the Year in 2009. Andreini has also been the proprietor of the champion Jumping Tac Flash and along with Schvaneveldt and Zory Kuzyk he owned the Grade 1 winning stallion Check Him Out. Over the years, Andreini has campaigned the likes of the talented Militante, two-time Grade 1 futurity placed runner Corona Cocktail, plus stakes winners Dashing Bye, Go Adrianna, and Grade 1 stakes finalist A Streakinson.

John Andreini was honored with the Gordon Crone Special Achievement award in 2008. He was also the recipient of the PCQHRA’s Frank Vessels, Sr. Memorial Award in 2003. A committed promoter of the breed, Andreini has served in various AQHA committees and is a former member of the AQHA Foundation Committee. He is also a former member of the California Horse Racing Board.

“In my view, Dr. Allred has been the salvation of Quarter Horse in California and without his help we would not be here,” Andreini said. “I have a great deal of admiration for Dr. Allred and Vessels Stallion Farm and for what they mean to the industry of Quarter Horse racing. To join this great sale at this time is the least I can do and I mean that sincerely. I’m looking forward to selling some of my better Quarter Horses at the Los Alamitos Equine Sale. I will not have as big a quantity this year as I usually do, but the quality will certainly be there. Dr. Burns is also a very good friend of mine so it’s exciting for me to see four people with a common interest come together and be part of the Los Alamitos Equine Sale.”

A two-time winner of the PCQHRA’s Breeder Special Achievement Award, Dr. Steve Burns operates the prolific Burns Ranch in Menifee, California, which has grown into one of the great Quarter Horse stallion stations in the nation. Burns Ranch is the home of stallions Walk Thru Fire, TR Dasher, Stel Corona, Foose, Hawkinson, One Sweet Jess, A Regal Choice, Separatist, Divide The Cash, and Favorite Cartel.

Dr. Burns has also worked tirelessly to improve his very own breeding operation of racing Quarter Horses. In 2011, Dr. Burns finished as the nation’s second leading breeder in money earned with $1,497,351. With his wife Jo Rae, the Burns-bred horses have included champion 2-year-old filly Haulin Pass, All American Futurity runner-up Flys R Droppin, Heritage Place Futurity and Derby winner Classified As Dash and 2009 Rainbow Derby and 2008 All American Juvenile winner Kool Cade. Dr. Burns and James Markum also bred Blushing By, the winner of the 1996 Los Alamitos Championship.

“It is an honor to be involved with the Los Alamitos Equine Sale,” said Dr. Burns. “We want to be very supportive of Quarter Horse racing in California. This has been an outstanding sale for the past several years and we are proud to be associated with this great weekend. We’ll have about 50 yearlings to bring and we’re looking forward to doing what we can to help make the sale another strong and successful event.”

Allred and Vessels Stallion Farms are synonymous with the breeding of fine Quarter Horses. Allred has been named the AQHA Champion Breeder a record 12 times. He finished as the nation’s leading breeder in money earned with over $3 million last year. Vessels Stallion Farm was named the AQHA Champion Breeder in 2006 and 1999. Vessels Stallion Farm’s current stallion lineup includes FDD Dynasty and No Secrets Here, plus the farm has frozen semen available to all-time leading stallion First Down Dash and Fishers Dash.
