Black Gold Enrollments Open

Stallion enrollment forms for Oklahoma Black Gold Program are open.

Press Release
December 20, 2012

The Oklahoma Black Gold Program is one of the oldest and best racing programs in the nation. Progeny of enrolled stallions are eligible forever with one lifetime enrollement fee for the stallion.

The Black Gold program is open to all stallions; the program is not an Oklahoma-Bred program and horses from everywhere can enroll. The normal enrollment fee is reduced by 50 percent for all stallions enrolled in the program before they actually breed their first mare. The regular fee for stallions who have bred a mare is $5,000; stallions yet to breed a mare are $2,500. These one-time payments make all offspring eligible to run in the Black Gold races.  The race series offers three to four racing opportunities  for a single set of payments and no time-of-entry payments to the divisions for all eligible horses sired by a Black Gold Stallion. Stallion owners are guaranteed 5 percent of the gross purses earned by participation foals sired by their stallion. Last year, Black Gold-enrolled stallions earned $37,052.

The Black Gold Futurity for 2013 will consist of two divisional races contested at 330 and 350 yards. The top ten qualifiers from each division will run for $100,000-guaranteed purses in the final of those distance divisions, and the top fifteen qualifiers from each division will be eligible to enter the trials for the 2013 Black Gold Futurity Championship. Estimated purse for the Black Gold Championship in 2013 is just over $430,000 and this years program includes $150,000 in added money for the series.  The 2013 races will run in late August through mid-November at Will Rogers Downs.  It is not too late to nominate horses for this year's futurity, contact OQHRA for more information.  405-216-0440 or
