Unbeaten Rainbow Futurity (G1) winner Carters Cookie made short work of his rivals this past weekend at Ruidoso Downs and turned heads among pollsters in this week’s AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com National Top-10 Poll for 2-year-olds. The Mike Joiner trainee went from relative unknown to No. 2 this week in the poll, splitting last week’s top pair, One Dashing Eagle and PJ Chick In Black, in the rankings.

Carters Cookie made his debut in the Rainbow trials with a 2-length victory and added an emphatic length score in the final that now sets him up as one of the favorites for the All American Futurity (G1) trials next month. None of the other Rainbow Futurity (G1) finalists were able to crack this week’s top 10.

Last year’s champion 2-year-old, Ochoa, announced he’s back in a big way this past weekend at Ruidoso Downs with a surging victory in the Rainbow Derby (G1). Pollsters rewarded him with a leap to No. 3 in the national rankings among the older horses, trailing only unanimous No. 1 Cold Cash 123 and Vessels Maturity (G1) winner El Aguila Real. Ochoa previously was unranked following a sixth-place finish in the Ruidoso Derby (G1), but now the Sleepy Gilbreath trainee figures to be one of the favorites for the upcoming All American Derby (G1) trials.
