Champion Good Reason SA has died. The 5-year-old stallion died unexpectedly, and a cause of death has yet to be determined.

Good Reason SA was bred and owned by Brazil's Gianni Franco Samaja and raced from 2009 through 2011, winning seven of 15 starts and placing in two additional races. He earned $1,446,727. He won a Grade 1 race every year he competed, including the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity (G1), Golden State Derby (G1) and Champion of Champions (G1). He also won the 2011 Los Alamitos Winter Championship (G2) and contested the 2011 Grade 1 Vessels Maturity, Robert L. Boniface Los Alamitos Invitational and Go Man Go Handicap, as well as the 2010 Champion of Champions.

He was honored as the sport's champion aged horse and champion aged stallion in 2011.

The son of Favorite Trick (TB) out of the First Down Dash mare Queen Of Appeals stood to a full book of mares in his first season at stud at Royal Vista Ranches in Wayne, Oklahoma.

"Good Reason SA had a bright future ahead of him because of his outcross pedigree, excellent conformation, and $1.4 million in race earnings," said a press release from his connections. "The connections of Good Reason SA are all very saddened by the passing of this outstanding horse."
