Dashair Colt Tops Utah Sale

Utah sale sees 14 percent increase from 2011.

A half-brother to Utah Classic Derby (RG3) winner Miss Josie Te was sold for $4,500 to top the UQHA Fall Yearling & Broodmare Mixed Sale. The September 23 sale was conducted at Salt Lake County Equestrian Center in South Jordan.

Consigned by Eric B. Peterson, the sale-topping Dash For Kiss (Dashair-Kissifer by Barnstormer) was purchased by Andy and Mary Atkinson. Stakes-placed Kissifer is the dam of 11 ROM from 13 starters including stakes winner Miss Josie Te SI 107 ($24,176), stakes-placed Zacareed ($30,826), stakes-placed AP Chicks Dig Me ($22,355), Grade 3 finalist Kisses Amazing Grace ($43,040) and Restricted Grade 2 finalist Noble Thunderstorm ($33,762).

UQHA reported 29 horses were sold for a gross of $62,750. The $2,164 average represented a 13.9 percent increase from the $1,863 average for 37 horses sold at the 2011 auction. The median also showed an increase from $1,200 in 2011 to $1,800 this year.

Andy and Mary Atkinson was the sale's leading buyer with the one purchase followed by Eddie Jensen who had one for $4,300 and David Newbold had one yearling for $4,300. Cody Allred was the leading consignor with three yearlings totaling $9,500. Steve Berry sold two for $8,600 and Ken Near had five for $6,500.

The leading yearling sale sire, with two or more sold, was Winners Version with five head averaging $3,140. Brookstone Bay saw two yearlings average $2,650 and Br Proudest Victory had two average $900.
