Fire On The Fly.
Tommy Bullard’s Bullard Farms of Weatherford, Texas, has paid the $20,000 late fee to enroll his 4-year-old homebred Fire On The Fly into the Bank of America Racing Challenge program.
Fire On The Fly is a gelded son of Jet Cartel out of the Thoroughbred mare Shades Of Pink, by Fight Over.
Fire On The Fly has won five of 13 career starts, with one second and one third and earnings of $54,403.
The gelding had a slow start as a 2-year-old, finally breaking his maiden in a 350-yard maiden at Delta Downs last May. He then won his trial and finished third in the $45,460 Delta Downs Open Graduation (not an official stakes).
In his three most recent outs, Fire On The Fly was stretched to 870 yards and looks poised to become a top contender in the distance races.
In his debut at Lone Star Park on November 2, he rolled to a 4 ½ length win while going six wide on the turn. He returned a few weeks later in an allowance at Zia Park and again went four wide, but clocked a :44.411 while running out a head-turning lead of 7 ½ lengths. His January 11 win at Sunland Park sealed the deal, as he hugged the rail and came home unchallenged by 4 ½ lengths.
All of his races can be viewed at Q-Racing Video, free of charge, by simply typing in his name in the "races by runner" page.
The Bank of America Racing Challenge is the world’s richest program for racing American Quarter Horses, and was designed to offer more opportunity for aged horses. Horses must have a single, lifetime enrollment to participate in Challenge races, with weanling enrollment only $300. Horses who participate in the Challenge program run at more than $5 million in purses each year.
