The track is groomed to perfection, the flamingos are set to fly, and the horses are trained and ready for the third season of Quarter Horse racing at beautiful Hialeah Park in scenic Hialeah, Florida.
The start of 2011-2012 live racing season is set for Saturday, December 10, at the historic South Florida racing palace. Featuring “America’s Fastest Athlete,” the American Quarter Horse, racing will take place typically on a Friday through Sunday basis with the first race always at 1:15 p.m. EST. This season, the schedule has been expanded to 32 days of racing, which puts closing day over two months away on February 19, 2012.
Quarter Horse racing fans and bettors will recognize many of the names in this season’s trainer and jockey ranks. Mainstays Matt Frazier, Donnie Strickland, Brad Bolen, Charlton Hunt, and Jackie Kirby all figure to saddle competitive runners while jockeys Oscar Delgado, Aron Hunt, Cody Wainscott, Brian Theriot, and Bill Ives should win their fair shares of races.
Opening weekend cards will feature trial heats for both the Hialeah Lassie Futurity and the Hialeah Laddie Futurity, as well as Saturday’s Orange Blossom and Sunshine State stakes races, and Sunday’s Foxy Lady Stakes. The stakes schedule will culminate on closing day February 19, 2012, with the $100,000 South Florida Quarter Horse Derby and the $75,000 Hialeah Invitational Championship.
To complement the world class Quarter Horse racing, Hialeah Park will feature a series of “off-the-track” events, activities, games and music that should make visitors of all ages feel right at home every racing day.
The 32-day Quarter Horse racing season, the track’s third following an eight year hiatus, gets underway Saturday, December 10, with live racing every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, except opening weekend and Christmas weekend. Hialeah Park will be dark Christmas Day, but there will be a Monday racing program December 26. First post time is 1:15 p.m. daily.
