The Quarter Horse Racing Association of Indiana Turkey Give-a-Way for Madison County, Indiana, on November 19 was a huge success for hurting families. The QHRAI helped feed 100 households and nearly 400 individuals within those homes.

"I want to personally thank Vickie and Chris Duke  and Tom Mosley for picking up the turkeys at GFS and hauling them to the Salvation Army in the horse trailer, and Vickie, Chris and Tom, along with Christa Conway and Kim Stalheim, for organizing the turkey distribution at the Salvation Army," said QHRAI President Michelle Collins. "It was really a neat opportunity to participate in this event and I am thankful that the QHRAI has such a good group of people willing to dedicate time and imagination to organizing an event like this. It was touching and left a great feeling in our hearts for us as we left that we could give this little gift to people who both needed and appreciated it in the city of Anderson, that has been such a welcoming host for 'The Fastest Horses In The World' at the fall race meet at Hoosier Park.

"I also want to thank Shelly Delong, Social Services Coordinator at the Salvation Army for working with Tom on such short notice to coordinate the event and to GFS for ordering the turkeys and having them ready for pick up this morning," she added.

The giveaway was scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m., and people were already in line at 7 a.m. The turkeys were distributed first come, first served until they were gone.

"We wished we could have supplied the entire county with a free turkey, but people were grateful for what we did have," Collins said. "We are planning to do a similar event in Shelbyville for Christmas."
