The Grand opening week of the 2012 live horse racing season begins on Wednesday May 2nd at Les Bois Park with full fields of live horse racing followed by the Kentucky Derby on Saturday May 5th. Les Bois is proud to welcome World Hall of Fame Jockey Laffit Pincay Jr. to help kick off the live race season on opening night. Laffit Pincay is the seven time leading rider in the United States and the only jockey in history to win the famed Eclipse Award for best rider five times. During his career Laffit won 9,531 races and over $190 million in purses! “LAFFIT: Anatomy of a Winner the Biography of Laffit Pincay Jr.” by Madelyn Cain will be available for purchase for and book signing. Wednesday is also Ladies Night and all ladies get in Free. Post time on Wednesday May 2nd is 5:30 p.m. and Saturday’s Kentucky Derby is an early afternoon post time at 2:00 p.m.
“We want to welcome Les Bois race fans back to the track to kick off the 36 day live racing season every Wednesday and Saturday through August 11th,” said General Manager Kerry Lawson. “More than 800 horses, festival flags, expanded table service and a new paddock bar are awaiting patrons this season. We are very excited to have Laffit Pincay here on opening day and he will be on hand for a book signing and help us launch this first full season of live racing.”
The all-Idaho ownership of Treasure Valley Racing has made significant improvements throughout the park. The Turf Club Bar and Grill offers expanded seating, a new menu and remodeled facilities. Trackside seating on the patio is also expanded this year so more patrons can enjoy a patio barbecue and stable full of drink specials as close to the action as possible. Racing fans can also enjoy the new “Harry’s Paddock Bar on the north side of the grandstand along with new restroom facilities. Patio, grandstand box seats and Turf Club table reservations are now available.
Wednesday’s are also Ladies Night and all ladies get in free! For the first time, every paying customer entering the park will receive a program at the door. General admission for adults is $5.00 including a racing program and teens and children 17 and under will receive free admission. Parking is always free. Post time for Wednesday May 2nd is 5:30 pm and Saturday May 5th is an early afternoon post time at 2:00 pm.
Opening week includes the huge Kentucky Derby Day celebration Saturday May 5th at 2:00 pm with a full card of live racing before and after the Derby. The Kentucky Derby will be shown live on Televisions throughout the park and racing fans can wager on the Derby. There will be a Kentucky Derby Hat contest and food and drink specials.
Adding to the excitement of the Kentucky Derby Day Festivities on Saturday will be the running of an Idaho horse “Rousing Sermon” in the Kentucky Derby at Louisville Kentucky owned by Larry Williams. Rousing Sermon is an Idaho bred horse and no Idaho bred horses have ever been to the Derby. Rousing Sermon was raised in Parma Idaho at Tree Top Ranches.
