Press ReleaseAugust 8, 2014
Two-year-old winners will now run for more purse money at Los Alamitos.
Effective with Friday’s nine-race program at Los Alamitos, overnight Quarter Horse races for 2-year-old winners have been raised $1,000. The first group of runners that will enjoy the new purse hike will be in Friday’s sixth race when five promising runners compete for a $10,735 allowance purse at 330 yards.
The field will be headed by Silver Racing Farm LLC’s He Walks Thru Fire, who broke his maiden at first asking on May 3. Trained by Jose Flores and to be ridden by Raul Valenzuela, the gelding by Walk Thru Fire would then finish third in his trial to Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1) and fourth in his trial for the Governor’s Cup Futurity (RG2). He’ll start from post number three in his fourth career start.
Flores will also saddle Freakier LLC’s Symbol Of Freedom, who enters this event after breaking his maiden on June 28. Juan H. Moya’s Scuba Doo ran third against allowance foes in his last start and now goes after his second win in three career outings. Urgency and Amber Bock will complete the field.
The card will also feature a pair of other allowance races headed by a group of 3-year-old and up distaffers competing for a $12,300 purse at 330 yards. Shes Fast And Flys, winner of a PCQHRA Breeders’ Futurity (G2) trial last year, will make her sophomore debut in this event. Shestheonethatiwant, who ran in the Governor’s Cup Futurity last year, and La Pacifica Handicap third-place finisher Thirty Six Belles will also race in this allowance event. Snowbound Superstar Handicap winner The Sunol Grade will headline the seventh race $14,300 allowance at 870 yards. Friday’s eighth race will also feature the debut of Tim Floyd and Warlock Stables’ Sorelli, who has been very impressive during morning works. The Brookstone Bay filly posted :12 flat drill at 220 yards on July 22.
