Mardis Gras Futurity Trials Monday

A record purse of $281,796 is set for the 2013 Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2) to be run at Louisiana Downs.
A record number of 135 Louisiana state-bred 2-year-olds will go to post on Monday, February 25, to compete in 14 trials races over 300 yards. The 10 fastest qualifiers will return March 16 and vie for the record-breaking winner's purse.
Fields of nine will compete in five trials and a full gate of 10 will face off in the other nine time trials. First post is set for noon (CST) at the Northeastern Louisiana raceway.
On Tuesday, February 26, trials will be run for the $84,404 Mardi Gras Derby (RG3) for 3-year-old Louisiana-breds at 400 yards. The 12 fastest qualifiers will also return on March 16 and vie for a winner's check of $37,981.80.

. Monday's trials will the first official races of the 2013 season of 2-year-old American Quarter Horses.
Louisiana Downs will play host to the $75,000-added Harrah's Entertainment Futurity (G3) trials on March 2. This 300-yard, Grade 3 event is open to 2-year-old American Quarter Horses.
