OQHRA Honors 2013 Champions

Oklahoma horsemen and horses were honored at the Will Rogers Theater in Oklahoma City.

The OQHRA handed out its 2013 awards on Saturday in Oklahoma City.

Members of the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association (OQHRA) gathered Saturday night at the historic Will Rogers Theater in Oklahoma City to honors their top horses, horsemen and horsewomen of 2013.

Bob Moore Farms General Manager Frank Merrill, a past president of AQHA, and Lazy E Ranch Co-Manager Butch Wise served as emcees for the annual event.

Weetona Stanley and William E. Smith were named Champion Oklahoma Breeder for 2013. Ranked ninth on the national breeders' list, Stanley and Smith-bred runners won 18 of 45 starts last year and earned $1,058,642. Stanley on her own also bred another 32 winners with earnings of $862,246.

Carl Pevehouse was the Champion Oklahoma Owner in races won with 21 winners that earned $423,218. Andrew T. Smith was the Champion Oklahoma Owner in money earned with 11 winners and earnings $1,069,730.

Eddie D. Willis of Caney, Oklahoma, was the Oklahoma Champion Trainer. Willis was the #2 leading national trainer last year with 84 winners, eight stakes wins and earnings of $3,398,821.

Former AQHA champion jockey G.R. Carter Jr. of Oklahoma City was the Oklahoma Champion Jockey. Carter rode 122 winners with 11 stakes wins last season while his mounts earned $3,023,505.

PYC Paint Your Wagon was named the Champion Oklahoma Stallion. Formerly owned by Michael and Donalda Pohl, the son of leading living sire Corona Cartel was the #2 leading sire of money earners for 2013 with $3,668,580. Reliance Ranches LLC recently purchased an interest in the stallion from the Phols, and he now stands at Lazy E Ranch LLC near Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Illegal Feature, owned by QH Investments LLC, was the Champion Oklahoma Broodmare of 2013. The daughter of leading sire Feature Mr Jess is the dam of 2013 AQHA Champion 3-Year-Old and 3-Year-Old Gelding Feature Hero ($1,362,263 to 3).
