Sunday’s sizzling Golden State Million Futurity (G1) win by One Dashing Eagle left no doubt who is atop the AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com National Top 10 rankings for 2-year-olds. The unanimous choice among pollsters going into his season finale, the All American Futurity (G1) winner romped in stakes-record time to his third major futurity score of the season worth $1 million or more. That’s never been done before, and pollsters rewarded the resume with a sweep of the ballots.

One Dashing Eagle’s incredible 2012 run has seen him win six-straight races since a debut runner-up effort. He has become the first American Quarter Horse ever to earn $2 million in a single season ($2,079,065).  His futurity troika includes the Ed Burke Memorial in June, the All American in September and the Golden State Million in November.

It was a big weekend for trainer Jose De La Torre’s barn as One Dashing Eagle was not the only newsmaker. Saturday’s Los Alamitos Super Derby (G1) victory for Deniro earned not only a berth in the Champion of Champions (G1), but also the No. 6 spot in this week’s AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com National Top 10 rankings for older horses. The Super Derby marked the first stakes win for Deniro, who has scored in three of six starts this year. The Washington-bred has tallied five of 12 starts for $450,543 in career earnings.
