Racing Welfare Meeting at Keenland

The Jockey Club and Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation will host the fourth Welfare and Safety of the Racehorse Summit on October 16-17 at Keenland in Lexington, Kentucky.

Among the topics to be discussed are corticosteroid use, pre-race inspections, and post-retirement programs.

The summit is open to the public and will run all day on Tuesday and for a half day on Wednesday.

Seakers include Jockey Club Executive Director Matt Iuliano, researchers Dr. Mick Peterson, Dr. Mary Scollay, Dr. Tim Parkin, Dr. Larry Bramlage and Dr. Wayne McIlwrath.

The summit will also include a round-table discussion by trainers on horsemanship and two panels discussing the process of implementing new safety initiatives and the establishment and maintenance of post-retirement programs.

In related news, a racing medication forum will be held at the AQHA Racing Conference on October 25. The forum is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is open to all. The Conference is being held at Prairie Meadows in conjunction with the Bank of America Challenge Championships.
