Remington Cancels Final Five Races on Friday

Severe weather in Oklahoma City leads to cancellation.

The seventh race on Friday at Remington Park had been official for about 10 minutes when the field for the upcoming eighth race made their way to the saddling paddock. When the group of 10 left the paddock, it was to return to their barns, not the starting gate.

A severe thunderstorm, featuring high winds and golf-ball size hail rolled over Remington Park in northeast Oklahoma City at approximately 8:50 p.m. After waiting for 20 minutes, it was determined by track management and Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission stewards that the five remaining races on the program be canceled.

There were two open Pick Three wagers pending once the storm forced the cancellation of the rest of the card. Here are those results: the Pick Three that would conclude in race eight was a 2-3-All with a $2 payoff worth $18.80. The Pick Three that would have concluded with race nine was 3-All-All for a $2 payoff of $15.20.

The Remington Park American Quarter Horse & Mixed-Breed Season continues Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28. The first race is at 6 p.m. on Saturday with Sunday racing at 1:30 p.m. All times Central.

Sunday is the 4th-annual Extreme Racing Day, presented by the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association. Quarter Horses will race 11 times at 11 different distances, a first at Remington Park. In between some of those races will be Ostrich, Zebra, Camel and Pig races.
