February 25, 2012
The 2012 American Quarter Horse & Mixed-breed Season at Remington Park will begin on Friday, March 2, with the opening weekend continuing through Sunday, March 4. Big-money trials will highlight the racing cards for much of the weekend with more big money available for fans via drawings and wagering sprees.
Cash drawings will accent the great racing on opening night, Friday, March 2. Entries will be available beginning at 5 p.m. in the racing entrance. There will be drawings after races 2-10, and winners need to report to the winner’s circle to claim their money. Remington will give away $200 after race 2, $300 after race 3, $400 after race 4 and so on until someone wins $1,000 after race 10.
A cash blast from the past returns on Saturday, March 3, as fans will have the chance to win easy money in wagering sprees during the program. Enter the drawing for the wagering sprees beginning at 5 p.m. in the racing entrance. Guests will be selected for the wagering sprees starting after race 2 and will then be invited to make as many $2 wagers on the next race within 30 seconds. Remington Park will pay for the wagers, with all winnings going to the guest.
The opening weekend concludes on Sunday, March 4, but not before fans can collect a new Remington Park T-shirt that will payoff when they return. Beginning at noon on Sunday in the racing entrance, the first 2,500 guests will receive a valuable Remington Park T-shirt. Wear the T-shirt back to Remington Park on the other Sundays in March and receive $5 in free play.
Fans can also meet one of the actors that played “Joey” in the movie War Horse on Sunday afternoon. Numerous equine actors portrayed Joey in the movie, including a yearling Oklahoma-bred that resides in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Just weeks old during filming of his scenes, Hollywood Extra is now a year old and will be on hand Sunday for photos between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. on the plaza.
The initial stakes race of the season will be offered on Sunday as the Grade 2, $50,000 Eastex Handicap is featured. At 350 yards, many of the top older Quarter Horses are expected to make their 2012 debuts in the Eastex. Opening weekend will also feature trials for the $100,000-added Oklahoma Derby and $100,000-added Oklahoma Futurity (G2).
Scheduled post times for the opening weekend programs will be 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, March 2 and 3, with afternoon racing on Sunday, March 4, at 1:30 p.m.
Open daily at 10 a.m. for casino gaming and simulcast racing, Remington Park also features the Bricktown Brewery on the casino floor. Admission, general parking and valet parking are always free at Remington Park.
