SunRay Releases Stakes Schedule

SunRay Park opens April 20 for 42-day meet.

SunRay Park Racetrack has announced its stakes schedule for its 42-day meet, which opens April 20.

Located in Farmington, New Mexico, SunRay Park will run 23 stakes – 11 for Quarter Horses and 12 for Thoroughbreds – worth more than $1.58 million in purses.

The richest race on SunRay's Quarter Horse stakes schedule, the 350-yard, $150,000-est. New Mexico Breeders' Futurity (RG3) for state-bred 2-year-olds, will be run June 3. Other highlights of the slate include the 350-yard, $120,000-est. Four Corners Futurity (G3) on June 17, and the 350-yard, $20,000-added Pfizer SunRay Park Starter Allowance Challenge – part of the Bank of America Racing Challenge program – on May 13.

Last year's Four Corners Futurity was won by SM Cattle Export Co. and Jaime Dominguez's Feature Mr Bojangles, who went on to win the Rainbow Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs and Hobbs America Futurity (G2) at Zia Park and become the 2011 champion 2-year-old colt.

SunRay Park's barn area will open on April 9, and the track will be open for training beginning April 10.

Racing at SunRay Park will be conducted on a Friday-Sunday and Tuesday schedule, with special racing programs scheduled for Monday, May 28 (Memorial Day) and Monday, June 25. Post time for the first race will be 12:55 p.m. (MDT) on Saturdays and Sundays, and 3 p.m. on weekdays.
