Just three points separated the top-three vote-getters in this week’s AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com National Top 10 rankings for 2-year-olds, the season’s first poll for the juveniles. West Texas Futurity (G1) winner WR Golden Eagle emerged with the top honors after contentious balloting. The One Famous Eagle filly, bred and owned by Rose Webb, led the way in the $284,461 race at Sunland Park on April 14 and garnered 87 poll points this week.

Jim Pitts’ Especially Tres, 2-for-2 after a popular victory as the favorite in the $452,800 Sam Houston Futurity (G2), just missed the top ranking as the Trey Wood-trained filly accrued 85 points in the balloting. Meanwhile, Reliance Ranches’ Coronado Cartel parlayed a win in the $720,000 Remington Park Oklahoma-bred Futurity (R) into a third-place slot in the poll and 84 points.

The rest of the first five juveniles were rounded out by $318,500 Oklahoma Futurity (G2) winner Fetching Beauty and the tough-beat Houdini, who was nabbed at the wire in a nose loss in the Remington Park Oklahoma-bred Futurity.

As for the older horses, the Top 10 remained firm this week. The rankings continue to be led by the unanimous No. 1 Rylees Boy, who has been at the top perch each week in 2013, the same spot at which he closed 2012.
