Sam Green’s A Priceless Gal again meets Brad and Ann Tate’s homebred Wicked Valentine in the $27,000-added Adequan Arapahoe Derby Challenge at the Colorado track on Saturday afternoon.

The winner receives a berth in the $200,000 Adequan Derby Challenge Championship (G2) at Prairie Meadows on October 17 at Prairie Meadows.

A Priceless Gal (Feature Mr Jess-A Southern Gal by Corona Cartel) prevailed by a neck over Wicked Valentine (One Famous Eagle-Only The Wicked by First Down Dash) in the first of two trials.

A Priceless Gal topped the qualifiers’ list with a :19.976 time while facing a headwind with Wicked Valentine earning a :20.018 mark.

Trained by John Hammes, A Priceless Gal finished ninth against older mares in the $45,630 Merial Remington Park Distaff Challenge two starts ago and may have found her level in the Adequan Arapahoe Derby Challenge against 3-year-olds at Arapahoe Park.

A Priceless Gal has two wins from four starts this year. She also won a conditioned allowance race at Remington Park.

Wicked Valentine just won his maiden two starts ago at Remington Park. However, he showed his potential last year when she finished second in the $41,000 John Deere Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge and qualified for the $282,500 Valley Junction Futurity (G3).

Juniors Quarter Horses’ Harrisburg (Azoom-Fearless Freda by Dash For Cash) won the other trial by one-half length as the even money favorite. His time of :20.043 was good for the third-fastest qualifying time.

Harrisburg has won two of five starts. His other win came in his All American Futurity (G1) trial at Ruidoso Downs.
