Raymundo Villareal Jr.’s BP Cartels Alibi, winner of last year’s $1,115,000 Heritage Place Futurity (G1), is well positioned for his first stakes win since that important victory when he starts in the $50,000 Mr Master Bug Stakes for 3-year-old Oklahoma-breds on Sunday at Remington Park.

BP Cartels Alibi (Corona Cartel-My Ladys Alibi by Chicks Beduino) won the Heritage Place Futurity in late May and then trainer Trey Wood pointed him directly at the All American Futurity (G1) on Labor Day at Ruidoso Downs. The colt won his All American Futurity trial by 2 1/2 lengths and then was seventh behind world champion One Dashing Eagle in the final.

In his only start this year, BP Cartels Alibi was a troubled sixth-place finisher in his Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Derby (R) trial.

Flying Hooves RC and Jennifer Sanchez’s Blaze Carver (Wave Carver-Blazin Fire by This Snow Is Royal) is also looking to regain his 2012 form. The Eddie D. Willis-trained colt finished third in the Rainbow Futurity (G1) after winning his trial by three quarters of a length.

Alexia Mehrle’s Last First Kiss (Shazoom-Top Shawne by Shawne Bug) should attract attention after finishing second in the $136,000 Oklahoma Derby in her latest start. The Kasey Willis-trained filly concluded her freshman campaign with a third-place run in the $159,952 OHA Mystery Futurity at Will Rogers Downs.
