Paul Blanchard’s Bills Last tries to make amends for a troubled fifth-place finish as the odds-on favorite in the Katella Handicap when he starts in the $25,000 Kaweah Bar Handicap (G3) on Saturday night at Los Alamitos.

Bills Last (Shazoom-Crystalinas by Beduino (TB)) had trouble in the Los Alamitos Winter Championship (G1) and still managed to grab second, beaten one-half length by the sport’s No. 1-ranked horse Rylees Boy. That effort earned Bills Last 4-5 favoritism in the Katella Handicap and he again encountered trouble when he was fractious and repeatedly bumped. The Paul Jones-trained gelding was never in contention and finished fifth.

The 4-year-old’s resume is loaded with past class. He qualified for the Grade 1 All American Futurity and Ruidoso, Rainbow and All American derbies before moving to Los Alamitos last winter.

Alfonzo Pasquel’s PK Fire (Walk Thru Fire-Mystic Identity by Easy Jet) makes his first start since a third-place run in last summer’s Vessels Maturity (G1). The member of the Jaime Gomez stable won the 2011 El Primero Del Ano Derby (G2) and qualified for the 2010 Golden State Million Futurity (G1).

Gone With A Win (Voghts Gold-Send Sallye Silver by Disco Jerry (TB)) won his maiden last summer for a $2,500 claiming tag at 20-1 odds and has climbed to the stakes ranks for trainer Jose De La Torre. Gone With A Win won a $20,000 claiming race in January and then took a $13,500 conditioned allowance race before a close third-place effort in the Katella Handicap, his most recent start.
