Wade Helton and Jarrett Helton’s Joker On Jack, fresh from a win in the $75,000 Refrigerator Handicap (G1), takes on a well-stocked full field of older sprinters over 400 yards in the $55,000 Lovington Stakes (G2) at Zia Park Sunday afternoon.

Joker On Jack (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Miss Six Fortune by Six Fortunes) prevailed in a very tight finish in the 440-yard Refrigerator at Lone Star Park when he defeated Jess Fly With Me by a head. He was timed in :21.310 over a muddy track for his first stakes win since taking the $209,440 Hialeah Laddie Futurity back in December.

Last summer at Ruidoso Downs, Joker On Jack showed his class when he made a late rush to grab third behind Wicked Courage in the $1,055,000 Rainbow Derby (G1).

R.D. Hubbard and Heysol Howlet’s Feature Mr Bojangles (Feature Mr Jess-Catch This Dash by First Down Dash) was a close fourth – beaten by a neck – as the 7-5 favorite in the Refrigerator. That was just his second start of the year. In his other start, he was a close third in the $40,000 All American Gold Cup (G3).

The 2011 champion 2-year-old colt, Feature Mr Bojangles had an important win at Zia Park during his championship run when he took the $265,000 Hobbs America Futurity (G2).

Richard Sturdevent, Terry Wootan and Joe David Yates’ DM Streakn Thru Fire (Walk Thru Fire-Sashay N Six by Sixarun) won last year’s Lovington Stakes by three quarters of a length and returns from a five-month layoff for trainer Mike Joiner.

Since last year’s Lovington victory, Joiner moved DM Streakn Thru Fire up to 870 yards. He responded with a second in the Red Cell Sunland Distance Challenge (G3) and a close third in the Red Cell Remington Distance Challenge (G3).
