Consistent Horses in Cherokee Challenge

Chics Delight, Sizzlin Cartel among contestants in Cherokee Challenge.

October 18, 2012

A field stocked with consistently successful horses – including Chics Delight and Sizzlin Cartel – make for an interesting $50,000 Cherokee Challenge Stakes over 350 yards at Will Rogers Downs on Saturday afternoon.

Tina and Dale Kolb’s Chics Delight (Chicks Doit-Easy Hempen Chic by Easy Jets Image) is after her first 2012 win, however she has been the runner-up in four of six outs this year. Those three second-place finishes came at Remington Park when she competed in the Decketta Stakes (G3), Bob Moore Stakes (G2) and the Merial Remington Park Distaff Challenge.

Chics Delight, trained by Dale Kolb, makes her second start off a layoff in the Cherokee Challenge. She comes off a third-place run in the Charlie Claborn Stakes over the Will Rogers’ straightaway.

J.E. Jumonville Jr.’s Sizzlin Cartel (Corona For Me-In His Dreams by Apollo (TB)) heads to Will Rogers after a third-place finish in his Dash For Cash Derby (G1) trial at Lone Star Park. He won the 2011 $297,000 Firecracker Futurity and returned to Delta Downs this year to run second in the $144,065 Firecracker Derby two starts ago.

Toby Keeton saddles Sizzlin Cartel, who has been second or third in his latest four starts, in the Cherokee Challenge.

James Sills’ Tel A Story (Corona Cartel-Perry Story by Mr Jess Perry) returns to the stakes ranks after a pair of short-distance allowance wins at Will Rogers. He won at 110 yards by a half length and then scored by the same margin over 250 yards. A year ago, he was second in the Black Gold 350 Futurity (R) at Will Rogers.
