May 24, 2013

Second-fastest qualifier and betting favorite Dashing Jet Rio scored her second victory in as many starts when she prevailed by a neck in Friday’s $246,142 Louisiana Breeders’ Lassie Futurity (RG2) at Delta Downs. Trained by Kenneth Roberts Sr. and ridden by Jesse Chavis, the daughter of Jet Black Patriot dashed 330 yards in :16.547 to earn $123,071 for owner Douglas Traylor.

Dashing Jet Rio broke her maiden in the trials by 1 ½ lengths with a time of :16.840 and picked up $9,600 for that win. Bred in Louisiana by W.A., Bruce, Susan and Karen Darling, Dashing Jet Rio is out of the multiple stakes-winning Mr Jess Perry mare Dashing Obsession, who won 10 of 23 career starts with more than $200,000 in earnings.

Jose Mendoza’s Sandra Sue Blue, a Jess Louisiana Blue filly who won the Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2) at Louisiana Downs in March, finished a game second with Eddi Martinez in the saddle for trainer Jose Garcia. Maiden Scooter Prize, a filly by First Prize Perry, got up for third. Fastest qualifier Kiss You All Over finished fifth.
