Dead Heat Fastest Qualifiers to Face Off in John Deere Challenge

August 3, 2012

Llano Cartel and Fastpass Regard are in the unique position of settling the score after they finished in a dead heat for the win while sharing the fastest qualifying time to the $60,030 John Deere Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge on Saturday at Ruidoso Downs.

Llano Cartel (Teller Cartel-Eyesa Lil Cuervo by Lil Bit Cuervo) and Fastpass Regard (Chicks Regard-Gambeleta Caine by Raise Caine (TB)) on July 20 finished on even terms in the fourth of six trials and both were timed in :17.493 for the 350 yards.

With the trial score, Wootan Racing’s homebred Llano Cartel broke his maiden in his sixth start. The gelding was a non-winner coming into the John Deere Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge, but showed he belongs at this level with his second-place run in the $100,000 Remington Park Juvenile.

KH Logax’s homebred Fastpass Regard has won two of seven races and developed into a consistent racehorse while finishing on the board in his latest five efforts. He won the Desert Classic Futurity Consolation on May 4 at Turf Paradise and two starts ago was second in a $25,500 allowance race at SunRay Park.

Rockin J Running Horses and Jack Manning’s Rockin Disco (Rock Solid Jess-Check This Disco by Check Him Out) takes a step up in class after racing to his second career win while setting the third-fastest qualifying time. The Michael Wakefield-trained gelding pulled away to a half-length win in :17.556.

Rockin Disco broke his maiden in his second start at Sam Houston Race Park, and his John Deere Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge trial was his second start at Ruidoso Downs. In his previous out, the gelding was fourth in a non-winners-of-2 allowance.
