Los Alamitos Winter Derby (G1) finalists High School Secrets and Buy Buy are among a deep field of 10 3-year-olds in the $20,000 Jim Smith Handicap on Sunday night at the Southern California track.

James Azevedo and the Boyles Trust’s homebred High School Secrets (No Secrets Here-Summertime High by On A High) fits well at this level after qualifying for the Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1) and the Los Alamitos Winter Derby, his most recent start.

The Paul Jones-trained High School Secrets finished seventh in the Winter Derby after winning his trial. He raced to a head victory in that trial for his third victory from 11 starts.

Kolleen Ledgerwood’s Buy Buy (Stel Corona-Aquisitive by Separatist) also won her Winter Derby trial by a head and then was a troubled ninth-place finisher in the Winter Derby. Trainer Roberto Dominguez brought her back in Go Josie Go Overnight Handicap and she raced to a third-place finish.

Buy Buy was claimed for $10,000 last June and then won the $25,000 California Breeders Freshman Stakes and placed in the Pat Hyland Memorial and Autumn handicaps.

Alvin Cross Child’s Ric Oh Shay (Feature Mr Jess-Vandi Chick by Corona Cocktail) tries for his fourth-straight win and his first stakes win. He won his maiden in December and came back to take his Los Alamitos Maiden Stakes trial. His most recent win came when he took a non-winners-of-two allowance race.
