Devon Dat Cash Wins PM Bonus Challenge

Gelding goes over the $100,000 mark in career earnings with victory at Portland Meadows.

Devon Dat Cash dug in for the final strides to defeat Current Sea by a head in the $13,300 Portland Meadows Championship Bonus Challenge on Sunday at the Oregon racetrack. The race is part of the Bonus Challenge Presented by Markel for Bank of America Challenge-enrolled horses.

The 7-year-old picked up $6,650 to push his career total past $101,000. Donald and Beverly Conway bred and own the gelded son of Devon Lane (TB) out of the Juno Dat Cash mare Junomore. Pattie Harris saddled Devon Dat Cash to his 11th career win in 35 starts. Luis Torres had the riding assignment and completed the 440 yards in :22.47. Devon Dat Cash won last year’s Bank of America Emerald Downs Championship Challenge and finished second in this year’s renewal.

Donald and Peggy Boyle bred and own Current Sea, a Separatist gelding out of champion producer Shirleys Strawfly, by Strawfly Special. Also trained by Harris, the 4-year-old picked up $3,325 to boost his earnings total to $83,875. Tim Neal handled the riding assignment.

Eyez On Brimmer finished a neck off the leaders in the show position for owner Malon Cowgill. Benito Curiel trains the Brimmerton gelding out of the Mr Eye Opener mare Runaway Eye Opener. Gregory and Renee Hickman are the breeders.

Completing the field were Catlow Rim, Cupids Dash, Shez Pretty Awesome, RR Red Rocket, Just A Rumor, Lucky Royal Rabbit and Shezahawk.
