El Primero Del Ano Derby (G2) winner Mr Ease Cartel and Ruidoso Derby (G1) third-place finisher Sugardaddy B step forward to take on older horses over 350 yards in the $30,000 Higheasterjet Handicap (G3) and fastest-qualifier Pajarita Sita looks like the filly to beat in the $49,590 Adequan Ruidoso Derby Challenge on Saturday at Ruidoso Downs.

Mr Ease Cartel (Corona Cartel-Sportiness by Zevi (TB)) is making his first start away from Los Alamitos Race Course in Southern California. He is in peak form with a four-race winning streak. In his most recent start, the colt came through as the 3-2 favorite in the $206,000 El Primero Del Ano Derby back in April. He sprinted to the lead and then held on to win by a nose over Henoshersecret

Trained by Mike Joiner, Mr Ease Cartel is owned by R.D. Hubbard, Billy Smith, Balgo Racing, David Hinkins, Ross Hinkins and Mike Abraham.

Jakita Investments’ Sugardaddy B (Bigtime Favorite-LS Honey Brown by Light On Cash) came within a neck of scoring a 19-1 upset win earlier this month in the $823,000 Ruidoso Derby (G1) for trainer Blane Wood. The $22,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale purchase was making his first stakes appearance since racing in the West Texas Futurity (G1) early in his career.

Joe Kirk Fulton’s homebred Sweet Oblivion (Mr Jess Perry-Daring Difference by Victory Dash) sports five wins and four second-place finishes from 11 starts. The Mike Robbins-trained mare was second in last year’s Adequan Ruidoso Derby Challenge and comes off a neck win in the Merial Sam Houston Park Distaff Challenge. She covered the 400 yards in :20.204 as the 11-10 favorite.

In the Adequan Ruidoso Downs Derby Challenge, Pajarita Sita (Pappasito-Mongoose Jet Eye by Mr Eye Opener) stood out from the three trials with her 1 1/4-length win over second-fastest qualifier Coronas Ice Maiden.

Pajarita Sita was timed in :19.345 for the 400 yards while Coronas Ice Maiden stopped the timer in :19.540.

Parjarita Sita, third in last year’s West Texas Futurity, has won her latest three races. She started her streak with an optional-claiming win and then took a Sunland Park allowance race in a very fast :16.870 for 350 yards before winning her Adequan Ruidoso Derby Challenge trial.

Nancy McCoy’s homebred Coronas Ice Maiden (Wave Carver-Corona With Ice by Corona Cartel) has two wins from four starts for trainer Paul Jones and makes her stakes debut in the Adequan Ruidoso Derby Challenge. Her best previous effort came in her 2013 debut when she won a conditioned allowance race at Sunland Park back in March as the 19-10 favorite.
