June 21, 2012

One Dashing Eagle proved fastest from 13 trials and now tries for the win in the year’s first $1 million futurity at Los Alamitos when he starts in the $1,041,000 Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1) over 350 yards on Sunday night.

Owned by Jose and Gustavo de la Torre in partnership with San Gregario Racing Stable, One Dashing Eagle (One Famous Eagle-One Sweet Dash by First Down Dash) stood apart from his rivals in the trials when he won the ninth trial by three-quarters of a length with a :17.555 time for the 350 yards for trainer Eloy Navarro.

One Dashing Eagle prepared for the Ed Burke trials with a second-place finish in a Los Alamitos 300-yard maiden race as the 7-10 favorite.

Gianni Samaja’s homebred Joy Roses Eagle SA (One Famous Eagle-Gather The Roses by Mr Eye Opener) also turned in her best performance in the Ed Burke trials when she won by a length in :17.691. The Paul Jones-trained filly showed progress in her two previous starts when she was seventh and then second in Los Alamitos maiden races.

Howard Nichols’ Jess Being Valiant (Valiant Hero-Jess Sass Me by Mr Jess Perry) looks to raise his record to three-for-three for trainer Joe “Bear” Bassett. He showed potential in his career debut when he displayed a strong finish and won by a half length. He moved forward off that win to dominate his trial by 1 1/4 lengths in :17.728.

Watch Linda Ballet (Mr Jess Perry-Sky Chicks by Chicks Beduino), Starlite Delight (Separatist-A Delightful Legacy by First Down Dash) and Tres Especial (Tres Seis-Sporty Spice by First Down Dash) also are unbeaten from two starts, highlighted by trial wins.

Robert Williams’ Watch Linda Ballet won her trial by three-quarters of a length in :17.739 for trainer Juan Aleman.

Randy Geiselman and Kim Kessinger’s Starlite Delight, also trained by Aleman, has raced to daylight wins in each start with a 1 1/2-length trial score in :17.743.

Tres Especial, a full sister to two-time Grade 1 futurity winner Tres Passes, was a dominating maiden winner and then won her trial by a neck in :17.760.

The field for the Ed Burke Futurity was changed through a ruling by the Los Alamitos stewards that declared Mr Ease Cartel, Super Long Straw and Streak Hitter out. They were replaced by Freedom Choice, Tres Especial and Revv Me Up.
