Ethics Aside, Bold Badon at Indiana
Veteran gledings headline Indiana Downs Classic.
May 17, 2012
Jorge Gonzalez’s Ethics Aside and Francisco Ramos’ Bold Badon, each coming off successful Hialeah Park campaigns, meet again in the $85,200 Indiana Downs Classic over 350 yards on Saturday.
Also on the card, fastest qualifier Air Born Leader heads the $109,000 Born Runner Classic for Indiana-breds.
Ethics Aside (Mr Jess Perry-Daring Difference by Victory Dash) has won his latest two starts, each at Hialeah. The 6-year-old scored a mild upset when he won the Roble Rojo Bonus Challenge Stakes by 1 1/4 lengths in a sharp :15.171 for 300 yards. The J.L. Gonzalez trainee then backed up that effort with a nose win as the odds-on favorite in a 220-yard allowance race.
Bold Badon (Dale Badon-Darbs Doll by Merridoc) was the 9-5 favorite in the Roble Rojo Bonus Challenge Stakes and raced to a fifth-place finish. He earned that favoritism by finishing a very close second in the Banyon Tree Stakes and racing to a third-place finish in The Signature Stakes.
In the Born Runner Stakes at 350 yards, Randy Thompson’s homebred Air Born Leader (Leader Of The Class-Air Born Jazz by Born Runner) defends his win in last year’s running.
Last year, the Thomas Mosley Jr.-trained Air Born Leader also scored in the Blue River Derby for Indiana-breds.
The 4-year-old gelding made his 2012 debut in the trials and impressed with a three quarter of a length win in :18.010 for the 350 yards in the first of two trials.
Randy Thompson’s homebred CT Leader (Leader Of The Class-Air Born Magic by Born Runner) won the other trial by a neck as the 4-5 favorite. He is also trained by Mosley and was timed in :18.172.
