The Fales family has enjoyed quite a meet with their American Quarter Horses at Turf Paradise, and it got even better on Friday as Ralph and Carolyn Fales’ homebred Heat Warning won the $64,363 Desert Classic Futurity (R) with their son Matthew handling the training duties. The family also teamed on Block N Tackle, who was named Quarter Horse of the Meet, and Matthew swept the AQRA President’s Open Spring Futurity and Derby last weekend.

In the Desert Classic, which was the final Quarter Horse stakes of the meet ending on May 7, Heat Warning prevailed by a nose with Esgar Ramirez in the irons for a 300-yard trip timed in :15.908. The Arizona-bred gelding by A Regal Choice also won his trial and is now undefeated in two starts with a bankroll of $33,865. Heat Warning was sent off as the 9-1 fifth choice in the wagering.

Jess Feelin Blue, a daughter of Jess Louisiana Blue running for Y/N Horse Stables LLC, rallied to finish second. Cesar Martinez’s Tac A Hike, a gelding by Tac It Like A Man, held on for third after leading early on. Fastest qualifier Capital Eye finished fourth as the favorite.
