Fales Strong in AQRA Turf Paradise Derby

Fales’ horses won both trials.

November 30, 2012

Owner-breeders Ralph and Carolyn Fales, and their son and trainer Matt Fales, are in a strong position with two of the top-three qualifiers, Block N Tackle and Bringin It On, to the AQRA-Turf Paradise Derby on Saturday at the Phoenix track.

Block N Tackle (Tac It Like A Man-Watchin The Rain by Takin On The Cash) and Bringin It On (FDD Dynasty-Already In Love by Corona Cartel) won the two November 17 trials with the first- and third-fastest qualifying times.

In the second trial, Block N Tackle sprinted to a daylight lead and then cruised to a half-length win with the fastest time of :19.942 for the 400 yards as the 3-10 favorite. Block N Tackle is undefeated at Turf Paradise with a 5-for-5 record, highlighted by 2011 wins in the Desert Classic Futurity (RG3) and the AQRA-Turf Paradise Futurity. The gelding has also stepped up at Arapahoe Park with a win in the July 14 Rocky Mountain Derby and the very close second in the August 18 Mile High Derby.

Bringin It On has also done some of his best work at Turf Paradise with a pair of wins and three seconds from five local starts. A year ago, he won the John Deere Turf Paradise Juvenile Challenge and then took his AQRA-Turf Paradise Derby trial by three-quarters of a length in :20.043 after a slow start. The gelding was also moved up to second place in the April 27 AQRA Spring Derby following a disqualification.
