Far Niente Faces PCQHRA Futurity Test

Far Niente has tough competition in the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity.

October 3, 2012

Tom Atwood and Vessels Stallion Farms’ Far Niente has the opportunity to prove he belongs in the top tier of the Los Alamitos juvenile division when he starts as the fastest qualifier in $392,000 PCQHRA Breeders Futurity (G2) on Saturday night at the Southern California track.

Far Niente (FDD Dynasty-Shahayla by Chicks Beduino) has won three of four starts, with his only defeat a troubled seventh-place finish in his Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1) trial. Trainer John Wells then brought him back in a non-winners-of-two allowance race, and he responded with a half-length win in a crisp :15.425 for the 300 yards.

Wells gave the colt another shot in the trials to a graded futurity in the Breeders Futurity trials, and Far Niente responded in the second of nine trials with a three-quarters length win with the top time of :17.407 for 350 yards.

Far Niente faces the stakes-tested Blackberry Czech and Joy Roses Eagle SA.

Salvador Pimienta’s homebred Blackberry Czech (Corona Czech-RA Noble by Blushing Bug) has also won three of four starts, and those wins include a hard-earned nose win in the Kindergarten Futurity (G2) back in May. The filly was then rested over the summer by trainer Felix Gonzales, and she came through in her return when she raced to a head win in her PCQHRA Breeders Futurity trial. Her time of :17.615 was the ninth-fastest qualifying mark.

Gianni Samja’s homebred Joy Roses Eagle SA (One Famous Eagle-Gather The Roses by Mr Eye Opener) was third behind All American Futurity (G1) winner One Dashing Eagle in the Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1) and then qualified for the John Deere Los Alamitos Juvenile Challenge.

In her Breeders Futurity trial, Joy Roses Eagle SA quickly stepped away from the gate and was in contention for the lead before the late rally of several horses. She settled for fourth place, beaten by a half length, and her time of :17.613 is the eighth-fastest qualifying mark.

JR Stables’ JR Dynasty Mountain (FDD Dynasty-Prissy B Panther by Panther Mountain) impressed in his Los Alamitos debut when he won his Breeders Futurity trial. The winner of his first three outs at Dixie Downs and Les Bois Park, he pulled away to a 2-length trial win in his first start for trainer Joe “Bear” Bassett. His time of :17.522 is the second-fastest qualifying mark.
