Big Dashing Perry tries to push his record to three-for-three in the $265,755 Firecracker Futurity on the Fourth of July and Heritage Place Derby (G2) runner-up Dashin Brown Streak chases his fourth win from his five latest starts in the $139,885 Firecracker Derby on Saturday night to highlight the weekend at Delta Downs

Grant Farms, Tommy Hays and Bobby Barnett’s Big Dashing Perry (Mr Jess Perry-Marcys Dashin Bye by Dashin Bye) has easily won his two starts and comes into his first stakes competition as the fastest qualifier. The Bobby Martinez-trained gelding won his maiden by three quarters of a length and then moved forward with a length win in his Firecracker Futurity trial. His time of :17.378 for 350 yards was the top mark from six trials.

Martinez will also saddle third-fastest qualifier Copacoronas Glory (Copacorona Special-Glorys Runaway by Runaway Winner) and fourth-fastest qualifier Bay Ba Licious (Carters Cartel-Platinum Performance by Strawfly Special).

Kay Holbeins’ homebred Copacoronas Glory finished second in a maiden race before winning her Firecracker Futurity trial by a half length in :17.411.

Melba De La Cerda’s Bay Ba Licious has stakes experience with a third-place finish in the Sam Houston Futurity (G2), her only defeat from three starts. She won her trial by a nose in :17.436.

Wade Navarre and Melvin Hatley’s Dashin Brown Streak (Hotdoggin-Annas Streakin Dash by Streakin La Jolla) brings a very consistent record into the Firecracker Derby. The Matias Lopez-trained gelding has five wins and three seconds from nine starts. He fought to a neck win in his trial while stopping the clock in :19.360 for 400 yards to record the top time from three trials.

Dashin Brown Streak was a close second in the Evangeline Downs Futurity and then second to Remington Park horse of the meet Brace For Bernal in the Heritage Place Derby (G2).

Mercy Hinklin’s Horse Farm’s Jetblack Gold Moment (Jet Black Patriot-Royally Streak by Royal Quick Dash) was second to Dashin Brown Streak in their trial with the second-fastest time of :19.395. The Kenny Roberts-trained filly was second by a nose in last year Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity (G3) and a close fourth in the Evangeline Downs Futurity as the odds-on favorite.
