Tony Sedillo’s Flyin Fish comes off an impressive allowance win to meet a strong field of 870-yard competitors in the $55,000 Herman Jefferson Stakes (G3) on Saturday afternoon at Zia Park.

Flyin Fish (Fishers Dash-Jazzing Cheree by Jazzing Hi) has been showing competitive form at this stakes level and, with his 4 1/2-length win over the Zia Park track in his most recent out, he should be dangerous. Last summer at Ruidoso Downs, the gelding won the Crenshaw Stakes, was second in the Fine Loom Handicap, third in the Tricky Dust Stakes and fourth in the Master Salls Handicap. All of those stakes were at 870 or 1,000 yards.

Anna Garcia and Jose Orquiz’s Im Royal Quick (Royal Quick Dash-Im Brendas Baby by Merridoc) could gain the favorite’s role in this competitive field. He went six wide to finish second to Flyin Fish in that Zia Park allowance race. He defeated Flyin Fish when he won the Fine Loom and the Tricky Dust for trainer Francisco Chavez.

Hugo Sierra’s Oh Jess Fly (Fly Jess Fly-Oh What A Perks by Dash For Perks) returns after a close second-place finish in the SunRay Park Marathon on May 5. The Oscar Carrete-trained gelding won a $12,500 claiming race and two optional-claiming races before the SunRay Park Marathon.
