Gotloveifyouwantit Wins Duke Smith

Genuine Strawfly filly notches first stakes victory.

June 23, 2012

Gotloveifyouwantit, who could have been claimed six months ago for just $10,000, earned several times that amount with a neck victory in Saturday’s $75,000 Tommy “Duke” Smith Stakes (RG2) for 3-year-old New Mexico-bred fillies at SunRay Park. The daughter of Genuine Strawfly dashed 400 yards in :19.722 as the 3-1 second choice with Albert Medrano aboard for owner and trainer Jesus Marquez of Albuquerque.

Bred by Jack Norris out of the unraced Special Task mare Sinn Bug Special, Gotloveifyouwantit enjoyed a productive 2-year-old campaign with two victories over $10,000 claiming company. Then in her first start as a 3-year-old, she jumped up in class to capture a $37,000 allowance affair at Sunland Park. She made her stakes debut last time out with a fifth-place run in the Sunburst Stakes (R).

This victory was worth $45,000 and improved Gotloveifyouwantit’s bankroll to $89,994 and a record of 9-4-1-1. She became the first stakes winner for her dam and the 10th stakes winner sired by 2002 All American Derby (G1) winner Genuine Strawfly.

Royal Dream Ranch LLC’s Wish You Had One To, a Stel Corona filly who was claimed for $10,000 in February before placing in two consecutive New Mexico-bred stakes, hit the board again with second-place finish as the 5-2 favorite. The Roberto Sanchez trainee has banked $46,200 in her three starts since being haltered.

Call Me A Blazn Chick, the winner of last year’s Zia Futurity (RG1) for J and M Racing and Farm, closed to take third.
