Im Royal Quick, KC Royal Flush meet up in King Rick Rack.

November 15, 2012

Anna Garcia and Jose Orquiz’s Im Royal Quick, dominating winner of the Herman Jefferson Stakes (G3), tries for his second stakes win of the Zia Park season when he starts in the $55,000 King Rick Rack Stakes over 870 yards on Sunday afternoon.

Im Royal Quick (Royal Quick Dash-Im Brenda Baby by Merridoc) could be making his final start of a productive fall campaign in the King Rick Rack. The gelding dominated the Herman Jefferson over 870 yards when he went from gate-to-wire on the lead to win by nearly 6 lengths. The Ramon Ronquillo-trained gelding also has a pair of seconds in 870-yard allowance races during the meet.

Kathryn Maynard and Carla Feerer’s homebred KC Royal Flush (Sixes Royal-Willie May Dash by Willie Wanta Dash) returns to open competition after winning the $140,000 New Mexico Classic Cup 870 Championship (R) over state-breds on October 28. The gelding made a four-wide run from the rear of the field at the start to get the win by a neck in the final strides.

The last time he raced against open company, KC Royal Flush finished fourth in the SunRay Park Marathon while returning to action following a nearly five-month layoff.

Tony Sedillo and Jimmy Negrete’s Tango Blue (Favorite Trick (TB)-Oodles Of Cash by Hooked On Cash) won the 2010 running of the King Rick Rack and was second to champion De Passem Okey in last year’s renewal. The Tony Sedillo-trained gelding has not won since he was claimed for $15,000 out of a winning effort at Ruidoso Downs on July 2.
