Im The Key Takes Hill Country Dash

Shazoom gelding earns first career stakes win.

Pat Hernandez' Im The Key defeated Falcon Point by a half-length in the $16,350 Hill Country Dash Bonus Challenge at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds in Texas. El Duero finished third.

Under jockey Gaspar Garcia, Im The Key kept to his task as he completed the 440 yards in :22.046 into a 10 mph headwind, earning a 98 speed index. The $9,810 winner's purse raised his earnings total to $38,112.

Juan Triana conditions the Shazoom 5-year-old bred in Oklahoma by Bob Moore Farms LLC. He is out of the Chicks Beduino mare Royal Classic Chick.

Falcon Point picked up $3,270 for his second-place finish. The FDD Dynasty 5-year-old races for owner Jose Oviedo. Angel Sanchez saddled the gelding out of Sin Tacha Perry, by Mr Jess Perry. He was bred by Smith & VanBebber and ridden by Luis Ramirez.

Graded winner El Duero boosted his earnings mark to nearly $305,000 after the third-place effort for owner Lionel Zapta and trainer Robert Monsivais. Luis Vivanco rode the Jorge Haddad-bred son of Oak Tree Special out of La Jolla Rocket, by Streakin La Jolla.

Completing the field were Im A Feature Girl, Biarritz, Mr King Midas, Mr Jess Feature and Kappucino Angel.
