Two daughters of Jess Louisiana Blue topped the trials on Saturday at Delta Downs for the Lee Berwick Memorial Louisiana-bred Futurity (RG1). Saul Dorado’s I Am Intriguing pulled off an 8-1 surprise in the third trial with a time of :17.431 for 350 yards while winning by 1 ¾ lengths to put her name at the top of the list. Louisiana Blue Belle, owned by Jesus Salazar, posted the second-fastest time of :17.512 with a 1 ¼-length victory in the seventh heat. The $550,000-estimated final is set for July 12 at the Louisiana track. A total of 14 trials were held but the fifth heat was canceled due to an equipment malfunction.
I Am Intriguing, who was ridden by David Alvarez for trainer Martin Trejo, won her second career race after breaking her maiden in a trial for the Louisiana Lassie Breeders’ Futurity (RG2) and finishing ninth in the final. Her record now stands at 6-2-0-0 with earnings of $26,726. J.E. Jumonville Jr. is her breeder.
Louisiana Blue Belle was ridden by Eddi Martinez for conditioner Jose Garcia and earned her first win from five career starts. She was bred by Marilyn Ogilvie.
